Overview

The 934-1 Barcol hardness tester is an indentation hardness tester. It is fast, easy to test, and can be pressed with just one pressure. It is used for rapid testing of the hardness of aluminum and aluminum alloy materials and complies with the American standard ASTM B648.

Purpose
The 934-1 Babbitt hardness tester is mainly used to test the hardness of aluminum and aluminum alloys, and can also test the hardness of other soft metals and fiberglass products. It can test various ultra large, ultra wide, and ultra thick workpieces and assemblies, as well as test plates, strips, profiles, forgings, castings, etc.
The W-20 Vickers hardness tester, widely used in the aluminum processing industry, is suitable for most aluminum alloys. For 2024, 7075 and other grades of ultra hard aluminum alloys, W-B75 Vickers hardness tester or Babbitt hardness tester can be used. For pure aluminum, low hardness aluminum alloys, particularly thick aluminum alloys, and other aluminum alloy workpieces that are inconvenient to use a Vickers hardness tester, a Babbitt hardness tester should be used.
The Babbitt hardness tester is generally used as a supplement to the Vickers hardness tester for testing pure aluminum, low hardness aluminum alloys, and ultra large and thick materials.

shortcomings
*Require the sample to have a wide flat surface. Therefore, it is not convenient to test narrow strip specimens, small-sized specimens, and curved specimens.
*The conversion error of hardness is relatively large. When testing aluminum profiles, the Babbitt hardness should be converted to Vickers hardness, and the conversion table of the Babbitt hardness tester differs by 2.7 units of Vickers hardness from the conversion table in the national non-ferrous standard YS/T420-2000. Therefore, the conversion table of the Babbitt hardness tester should be used with caution.
*The Babbitt hardness block has defects. The thickness of the Babbitt hardness block is only 0.8mm. After testing, visible deformation marks will appear on the back of the hardness block, indicating that the thickness of the hardness block is insufficient. This violates the basic principle of sample thickness in indentation hardness testers and can cause significant testing errors.
*Lack of good after-sales service. The instrument production factory does not have maintenance points in China, and various agency companies as trading companies lack maintenance capabilities. Therefore, using a Babbitt hardness tester will encounter difficulties in instrument maintenance and accessory supply.
